Offense

- more than 7.25 yards a play before garbage time

Fail Florida State gained 450 yards on 70 plays before garbage time set in. That's 6.43. 6.43 is a fine number, but a team of FSU's talent against a defense as untalented as Miami should have done better. It's 87% of the ambitious goal we set.

Why did Florida State fail? We'll have that broken down in painstaking detail during the film review to come later in the week. And yes, it will probably focus on penalties and fumbles.

- No more than 1 turnover

Fail Speaking of fumbles... Florida State's offense had four of them and lost two. On occasion, this goal can be missed due to bad luck. But not when a team fumbles four times.

- 70% or greater TDs in the red zone

Fail Florida State was 3-6 in the red zone. 5-6 would have been required to reach this goal. When making it, we expected at least seven red-zone trips. That would have required five TDs (on seven trips) for success.

Defense

- less than 4.75 yards a play before garbage time

Pass Florida State allowed 183 yards on 57 plays before garbage time. That is fantastic defense. 3.21 yards/play. One day, people will be more accustomed to using yards/play to measure defensive performance (as opposed to total yards). They'll look back and realize how good this defensive performance was.

How did they do it? Again, we'll find out more in the film review. But here's a hint: no big plays. As in, the longest rush allowed was 9 yards. The longest passes? 32, 24 and 19.

- Force 2 turnovers

Pass Florida State picked off Morris and forced a fumble on a strip sack. That's getting it done.

- 50% or less TDs in the red zone

Pass Miami was 2-4 in the red zone. Technically. But one was in garbage time, so 1-3. And that's getting it done.
