For the second time in as many weeks, Tennessee tight end Kyle Oliver has had an impressive camp performance. Out of Murfreesboro (Tenn) Oakland High School, Oliver first impressed at the Ohio stop on the Nike Football Recruit Tour.
Then, he moved his planned visit up to Tallahassee, and was again impressive Thursday at the Jimbo Fisher football camp. The 6'4.5, 226-pound (verified) three-star tight end caught the ball well, showed good speed, and got in and out of his breaks. He has the frame to add at least 25 more pounds of muscle once he gets in a college strength program.
It seems likely that he could earn a Florida State offer. In fact, he's expecting one.
"Coach Brewster said I'll probably get one after the camp," Oliver said. Oliver has been developing his relationship with coach Brewster, and said that he thinks Brewster is real, and straight forward.
What does Brewster like about Oliver?
"[Brewster] says I have a lot of natural ability. He likes how I catch the ball," Oliver said.
Currently, Ole Miss is Oliver's top offer. But what would an offer from the National Champions mean to the tight end?
"Florida State would be on top if they offer," Oliver said.
Florida State currently holds a commitment from tight end Jalen Wilkerson, and some believe that JUCO tight end Josh McNeil is committed. There is some question as to whether FSU would actually take McNeil, or if he will actually qualify. Schools cannot confirm on the record who is, or is not committed.
Oliver will take a tour of the campus and the academic program Thursday afternoon. He wants to have his commitment process over with by "early July", and certainly before his senior football season starts. Also of note is that Oliver just turned 17, which makes him somewhat young for his grade level.
