As had been expected by Miami insiders for quite some time, running back recruit Alex Collins decommitted this morning from the Hurricanes. The news was first reported by 247sports.
Collins stars for Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) South Plantation High School. At 5'11 and 208 pounds, Collins has the power to run over defenders, but also the athleticism to make them miss and eliminate angles. In a special year for running backs in Florida, some believe he is the best back in the state. Collins is a consensus four-star recruit and may soon be elevated to five stars by some services.
The decommitment follows a commitment to Florida State by John Franklin, Collins' teammate and close friend.
Collins was the only committed running back recently profiled in Run on running backs coming, an article discussing uncommitted backs who could soon commit.
Florida State and Miami insiders expect Collins to choose Florida State, though there is theoretically some chance that he could recommit to Miami or choose Wisconsin, as the Badgers have also been recruiting him hard. There are no certainties in recruiting.
