College football playoff: Where is Florida State ranked?

We'll update this post around 7:30 ET to let you know where the Seminoles are ranked.

The college football playoff selection committee released its updated rankings Tuesday night at 7:30 ET. Florida State dropped to No. 3 this week, behind Oregon.

Some observations:

-The committee chair Jeff Long said that Oregon has three top-25 wins, two of which are on the road, while FSU has just two top-25 wins. He did not address Oregon's loss at home as a three-TD favorite. He did say that the margin was "razor thin".

-Is the committee trying to prove that it's not going to simply rank teams by the number of losses? Perhaps that explains the Oregon/Florida State flip?

1. Mississippi State

Mississippi State defeated Auburn in Starkville and also beat LSU handily in Baton Rouge -- a win that looks better now that LSU has improved. The Bulldogs must still travel to Tuscaloosa and Oxford, however, along with a potential SEC Championship Game.

2. Oregon

The Ducks solidly beat Michigan State and Stanford, and won on the road at UCLA, but lost at home to Arizona. The Ducks have an incredibly easy slate left, before playing for the Pac-12 title, against what will likely be Arizona State.

3. Florida State

FSU defeated Notre Dame and Clemson in Tallahassee, the latter victory coming without Jameis Winston, and took down Louisville on the road. FSU still must play at Miami and host Florida, along with a potential ACC Championship Game.

4. TCU

The Horned Frogs took down Oklahoma and West Virginia on the road, while losing to Baylor. Over the weekend, TCU drubbed Kansas State. The Horned Frogs will be big favorites in all remaining games.

5. Alabama

Alabama has a good victory over West Virginia, a win at LSU, and has blown out some lesser SEC schools. The Tide will have a chance to bolster the resume with games v. Mississippi State and Auburn, along with a potential SEC Championship Game.

6. Arizona State

The Sun Devils have wins over USC, Stanford, Washington and Utah, but also lost 62-27 at home to UCLA. Over the weekend, they beat Notre Dame by three touchdowns.

7. Baylor

Baylor's resume was pretty light until the weekend, when it added a blowout win at Oklahoma to its win over TCU. Their only slip-up: a 14-point loss at West Virginia.

8. Ohio State

The Buckeyes' loss at home to Virginia Tech still drags down the resume, but the convincing win over Michigan State helps a bit. Ohio State is now likely to play for the Big Ten title.
