What does Miami's decision mean for Florida State?

As you know by now, Miami has self imposed a post-season ban for the second consecutive year. Let's ask some questions.

Will Miami still play for the ACC championship? No. Florida State will now face Georgia Tech in the title game.

Is this a good thing? Not really.

Florida State would have been a massive favorite over Miami in a rematch, given that the Seminoles fumbled five times (losing three) in the first meeting, in Miami, yet still held a 33-13 lead with two minutes remaining. It would have allowed FSU to pull closer in the all-time series.

Plus, FSU now has to face the annoying triple option attack of Georgia Tech, which seems to be hitting its stride, meaning it must immediately refocus after the Florida game, regardless of result.

Does Miami still get to share in the conference's bowl revenue? Yes. I cannot tell you the rationale here, but it will get its share.

What does this decision mean for Miami? The NCAA is likely to give The U substantial credit for declining another bowl and foregoing a chance to play for the ACC title (which wasn't guaranteed). I also think the move shows that Miami realizes just how bad the penalties may be.
