Marcell Harris, one of the top safety recruits in the country, committed to the Florida Gators Thursday during a ceremony at his school. Harris stars for Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips High School. He is a consensus four-star recruit, and also held offers from Texas, Oklahoma and Florida State.
Harris' father played for Florida in the 1990s, and now Marcell will follow in his footsteps.
My take: Harris has the body of a linebacker, and I initially thought that would be his eventual position. But having had the chance to see him several times over the summer, and again this season, Harris has changed my mind. He has shown the ability to play safety in the right system at the collegiate level. Florida will be able to use him in a way that hides his weaknesses.
Harris is the 21st recruit of the 2013 class for Florida.
