Florida State landed a huge commitment at its junior day Saturday in Shavar Manuel, according to multiple reports. But Manuel himself has denied making a commitment. It could be that Manuel has committed silently and doesn't want the word out, or the reports could simply be false or premature.
Manuel is a five-star defensive line recruit from IMG Academy in Bradenton (formerly of Tampa's Blake High School).
Manuel, 6'3 260, is rated as a five-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite ratings, which blend the four major recruit rankings into a composite score. He is considered the No. 1 strong-side defensive end recruit and a top-10 player nationally. There is also a chance that Manuel keeps growing and ends up inside, though he could be a prime candidate to play five-tech in the 3-4 front, sliding inside in a four-man front.
Manuel would be the fifth defensive line type to commit to the to the Seminoles for the 2016 class, joining Janarius Robinson, Keir Thomas, Josh Brown and Cedric Wood. FSU will bring back 13 defensive linemen in 2016, and attrition of two is reasonable. Look for Florida State to sign four or five including at least two ends and two tackles.
