Florida State landed a commitment from Miami (Fla.) Central safety Jamel Cook Saturday at junior day, per Ryan Bartow of 247sports. Out of Miami (Fla.) Central, Cook is a huge safety at 6'4. He claims offers from Florida State, Clemson, Alabama, Miami, Florida, Oregon State and Louisville. He is rated as a three-star, but the rankings are very early in the process still.
Florida State has landed many commitments from Miami Central of late, including Keir Thomas, Da'Vante Phillips, Calvin Brewton, Dalvin Cook and Devonta Freeman.
Florida State returns 12 defensive backs in 2016 and attrition of one or two is reasonable, meaning Florida State will likely be in the market for four or five defensive backs. Cook is the first defensive back commitment of the 2016 class, and has tremendous size.
The Seminoles now have nine commitments for the class of 2016 and is in line to land another star-studded class.
