Craig-Myers missed his junior season with a leg injury. Now he's back on the market.
Five-star receiver recruit Nate Craig-Myers decommitted from Auburn Wednesday evening after having been committed for about a year. Out of Tampa (Fla.) Catholic, Craig-Myers is considered the No. 1 receiver recruit in the country by the 247Sports Composite, and a top-25 player nationally regardless of position.
The news is good for Florida State, as the Seminoles have been placing most of their recruiting eggs in the Craig-Myers basket, being very selective with offers and attention shown to other receivers.
The move was not unexpected. Though Dameyune Craig, an excellent recruiter and former Florida State coach is recruiting him for Auburn, many experts predicted a flip to Florida State -- something that has not happened yet, but seems likely. I predicted a flip in February on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, as sources in Tampa told me they thought of him more as an FSU commitment than an Auburn commitment.
Craig-Myers has visited Florida State multiple times and every time he goes up to see Auburn, it's an easy trip back down I-10 to stop in and see the Seminoles. Those visits are even more likely to keep occurring since rising star linebacker Jacob Pugh of FSU is his cousin.
Another factor perhaps aiding Florida State is its pro-style offense. Auburn receiver Sammie Coates is a physical freak with a similar physical profile to that of Craig-Myers, but was drafted in the third round due to concerns about his lack of route running ability and catching. Craig-Myers is sure to be made aware by pro-style teams that no receiver has caught more than 45 passes since Gus Malzahn's return to Auburn and his install of the spread-option attack. It has happened six times at Florida State during Craig-Myers high school career.
Another situation worth monitoring is that of Craig-Myers' half brother Jayvaughn Myers, a defensive back from Dade City (Fla.) Pasco High School. Florida State has not offered Myers, but Craig-Myers has publicly expressed his intent for his half-brother to receive an offer, though he told SB Nation that the two were not a package deal.
Florida State currently holds a commitment from four-star receiver Keith Gavin, of Crawfordville (Fla.) Wakulla, a 6'3, 215-pounder with great athletic ability.
