Welcome to The Crootletter (sign up to get this in your inbox every morning!). I'm Bud Elliott, SB Nation's National Recruiting Analyst, and in this space I'll be sharing news, rumors and musings on the world of college football recruiting.

SB Nation’s Alex Kirshner put together an excellent breakdown of what states produce the most elite talent.

Florida, Texas, California, Georgia, Ohio, Louisiana, Alabama, Virginia and North Carolina account for 67 percent of the nation’s four- and five-star recruits over the last five years. (Schools in those states have won 100 percent of the national championships over the same period.) Florida, Texas, California and Georgia account for 49 percent of the blue-chippers alone.

I’m not sure what to say about this since I already knew it as my job is to cover recruiting, but is this intuitive to you readers? Are the numbers more stark than you figured? Anyhow, it’s good to have this link handy when discussing which jobs have access to elite talent locally.

Highlights

If reading this newsletter via email, click here to see two new highlight videos we made Tuesday (especially Alabama and Maryland fans).

The highlights are rolling out from the IMG NFA 7v7 National Championships. We’ll be putting out highlights almost daily from now until the season.

Here’s Alabama QB commit Mac Jones explaining how to use Roll Tide in any situation.

Quickly

Four-star 2016 offensive lineman Patrick Hudson committed to Texas Wednesday. The former Baylor signee was released from his letter of intent by Baylor, and picked Texas over Texas A&M, TCU and Oklahoma. The Longhorns have now signed four former Baylor signees, and have the No. 6 class in the country for the class of 2016. And look where the new signees play: offense. Texas increased its offensive blue-chip count for the 2016 class from four to seven. This is important because Texas has struggled to recruit offense relative to its defensive success under Charlie Strong.

Five-star cornerback Shaun Wade is committed to Ohio State, but the Florida star has Alabama and Notre Dame as backup plans.

Speaking of Oklahoma, Crimson and Cream Machine assessed where the Sooners stand in terms of their defensive line targets in the 2017 class.

Four-star wide receiver Jeremiah Holloman holds offers from many of the biggest programs in the country, but he told Maize n Brew that he would visit Michigan before he commits anywhere.

Colorado landed the commitment of 6’4, 250-pound athlete Sebastian Olver, a big Australian kid who’s still pretty new to the game.

Dylan Moses announced his official visit schedule for the fall, which does not include LSU. And The Valley Shook urges Tiger fans to not get too worked up about the Baton Rouge native not putting LSU on that list. This is a smart take and many (most?) in the industry still absolutely expect Moses to sign with the hometown Tigers.

Notre Dame looks good for several receivers on its board.
