Welcome to The Crootletter (sign up to get this in your inbox every morning!). I'm Bud Elliott, SB Nation's National Recruiting Analyst, and in this space I'll be sharing news, rumors and musings on the world of college football recruiting.

The Florida Gators got some great news Monday evening. Marco Wilson, a four-star cornerback prospect out of South Florida, committed to UF, beating out Miami and other suitors. His brother, Quincy, is a good defensive back for the Gators already, and Marco is a nice addition to the Gators’ 2017 class.

Wilson held reams of offers even as a rising junior in 2015, before a torn ACL kept him out for the entire fall season. He's come back stronger, reportedly, but the athlete who set the Internet ablaze with a catch in the middle of a backflip has had his star cool on the recruiting trail, if only slightly, without another year of game tape.

That diminution of esteem may not mean a diminution of talent, given what Wilson was able to do as a sophomore at American Heritage in South Florida. In his highlights, Wilson appears to be every bit as physical as his bigger, stronger older brother, with slightly better speed and quickness.

I don’t think Marco is quite as physical as big brother Quincy, but he is more athletic at the same stage.

Quincy is a junior this year, so there's a good chance he'll play with Marco in the 2017 season.

Sticking in the SEC East, South Carolina picked up four-star offensive tackle T.J. Moore, keeping the North Carolina prep away from Tennessee. Moore is now arguably the best player in the Gamecocks’ class.

The 6’5", 280-pound Moore, who should figure heavily into the rotation next year even if he doesn't start, will have familiarity with one other member of the 2017 recruiting class. Eric Douglas, a fellow offensive lineman for a Mavericks team that has won three consecutive state titles in North Carolina’s Class 4A, committed to the program back in April. They join JUCO transfer Dennis Daley and Palmetto State product Summie Carlay as O-line pledges.

Coaches responded to the new NCAA rule changes regarding interactions with recruits on social media by retweeting recruits hundreds of times, creating one of the most annoying timeline experiences ever. Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin took advantage of the rule to troll Tennessee’s program.

Four-star receiver Tyjon Lindsey, whom I believe to be the second-best slot receiver in the country, will announce his college choice on Aug. 22. I expect him to follow best friend Tate Martell and choose Ohio State.

Oscar Gamble of Rock M Nation says that the new rule may have one positive benefit for fans and media.

Recruiting rankings in August don’t mean much, but Syracuse’s start is one of the bestin school history.

Penn State beat out Cincinnati and Virginia Tech for a three-star linebacker.

West Virginia beat out NC State and Maryland for an offensive tackle out of Georgia.

Here are 12 players who will help define Texas’ recruiting success in 2017.
