The tall cornerback has Bama, LSU, Nebraska, and USC on his current short list.
“Best player to come out of San Diego in a decade: you think that’s legit?” I asked four-star St. Augustine High cornerback Isaac Taylor-Stuart at Sunday’s edition of The Opening in Los Angeles.
“Yeah, it’s legit, I wanna say,” he laughed.
His early 0.9828 score on the 247Sports Composite rankings gives him the highest grade of any recruit ever billed from the city of San Diego. At 6’2, 187, Taylor-Stuart has the size to battle with bigger receivers, a popular trend in the higher levels of football. He also ran track as a freshman and sophomore, and hopes to return some kicks and punts in college.
If he were to list a top five today, he says Alabama, LSU, Nebraska, and USC would appear in it, adding that he also has good relationships with Michigan, Oregon, and Washington.
“He played in the league, he coaches, he’s just got the swagger and everything,” he says of USC secondary coach Ronnie Bradford, also citing Nebraska assistant Donte Williams and Alabama co-DC Tosh Lupoi as coaches he’s in touch with.
He says a Florida State offer and a likely Ohio State offer stand out among his recent contacts, with Louisville also offering.
He plans to take his visits and wait until the traditional Signing Day in February to sign, since “you never know; something might happen, and then you’re stuck there,” if he were to sign in December, as is anticipated to become an option. After that, he plans to major in marketing.
