Lavon Hooks, a top JUCO defensive tackle recruit, committed to the Ole Miss Rebels Thursday. The commitment is a major coup for the program. Hooks chose the Rebels over Washington, Mississippi State, Miami and Auburn. The decision came after many delays in the announcement process.
As usual, following a recruit's visits will lead to his destination, and Hooks most often visited Ole Miss and Washington.
Hooks is originally from Norcross (Ga.). After high school, he ended up at Northeast (Ms.) Community College.
Hooks is 6'4 and 295 pounds, with excellent length and athleticism. He profiles as a defensive tackle who can disrupt opposing offenses by shooting gaps and chasing down plays. Hooks should either start or receive instant playing time for the Rebels.
An unconfirmed rumor had it that Hooks' fiance attends Ole Miss, which helped the Rebels' in their recruitment of the big tackle.
Ole Miss' class now sits at 21 commitments.
