This isn't official in the sense that the University has not yet announced the hiring, but they also haven't announced Billy Napier, and Napier was recruiting with the other coaches over the weekend.

But I'm told Sanders will be an offensive assistant for Florida State. What position? Probably running backs. Here's the breakdown.

Florida State had openings at running backs and quarterbacks coach. Napier came in as tight ends coach, which pushed James Coley to QB coach (again, none of this is official). That leaves running backs for Sanders. It's also possible that Coley could coach running backs and Sanders coach QBs, though I don't think that will happen.

Here's Sanders' bio from Wikipedia:

Randy Sanders (born September 22, 1965) is the American football offensive coordinator and assistant coach of quarterbacks for the University of Kentucky Wildcats. As quarterbacks coach, Sanders' guidance helped André Woodson develop from an inconsistent performer into one of the top quarterbacks in the nation.

A native of Morristown, Tennessee, Sanders was a quarterback on the Tennessee Volunteers football team from 1984 through 1988. Sanders earned four varsity letters and was a four-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. After graduation Sanders remained with Tennessee as a volunteer assistant coach, helping coach the quarterbacks in 1989 and 1990 under head coach Johnny Majors.

Prior to coming to Kentucky, Sanders spent 22 seasons (1984-2005) as a player and coach at the University of Tennessee, including the last seven as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach He was named offensive coordinator after the 1998 regular season, but was forced to resign after Tennessee went 5-6 in the 2005 season.

After the 2008 football season, Sanders' job description changed from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, after he helped guide the Wildcats to a third straight bowl victory for the first time in school history. With this change Sanders gave up his position as Kentucky's recruiting coordinator.

I really have no idea what to think of Sanders.

He will be 48 come September, does not appear to be a Saban guy (a good or bad thing depending on your perspective), and isn't a liability as a recruiter.

I guess the biggest positive is that he has experience as an offensive coordinator, and being more established than some of the other coaches on the staff (11 years as an offensive coordinator in the SEC), might be able to speak up more during meetings to assist Fisher in his guiding of the offense.

I'll also note that both new offensive coaching hires come with a "pound the football" mentality.
