As national signing day approaches, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at all 72 recruits signed by Jimbo Fisher as head coach of the Florida State Seminoles.

My overall impression is that the retention rate has been quite high.

Perhaps too high.

Top programs have to churn the roster and do not let underachievers hang around for too long. They convince them to transfer out, graduate early, or take a medical disqualification (the player's tuition is footed by the school, but he does not count against the 85 limit).

Of course, as we've previously discussed, FSU's APR score was seriously damaged by the nonsense under the Bowden regime, and those bad years are just now coming off the rolling, multi-year calculation. That meant that FSU could not process out as many kids as it wanted in previous years. The APR has improved a lot because kids are going to class much more often now and the cheating scandal from 2007 is coming off the books. Kids are graduating at a much higher frequency.

By my count, there are roughly 10 players who could be processed without any negative impact to the on-field product. I would expect FSU to take more than 50 players between the 2013 and 2014 classes.

What happened to the 72 players signed under head coach Jimbo Fisher?
