In stunning news, Reuben Foster, the top inside linebacker recruit in the country and an Auburn commitment who was once committed to Alabama, has been spotted at the University of Alabama Saturday night, according to reports.
The reason this is stunning? Foster was supposed to be on his official visit to Auburn, the chief rival of the National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide.
Foster is a consensus five-star recruit from Auburn (Ala.) High School. He stands 6'1 and weighs in at 240 pounds.
The news was first spilled by Alabama player Christion Jones, who tweeted (and then deleted):
"Chillin with my boy Alvin and Reuben tonight" -@Jonessboy22
The "Alvin" reference is likely Alvin Kamara, a star running back deciding between Alabama and Georgia.
Jake Rowe of Rivals confirmed the news via Twitter:
RT @JakeRoweRivals: Confirmed that Reuben Foster is in Tuscaloosa tonight. Was supposed to be on his official visit to #Auburn this weekend, but is at #Bama.
Rowe covers the Georgia Bulldogs, who are somewhat in the race for Foster's signature.
Meanwhile, from the Auburn side, Brian Matthews of 247sports posted the following:
5-star linebacker Reuben Foster has not been spotted in Auburn since early this afternoon, around 2:30 p.m. CT. Alabama WR Chris Jones tweeted out tonight that he was hanging out with Reuben and RB prospect Alvin Kamara in Tuscaloosa tonight. That tweet was quickly deleted.
I believe it's probably true. There's no way to spin this other than it's very bad news for Auburn in regards to its recruitment of Foster.
In my recruit predictions article, I projected Foster to stick with his commitment to Auburn, mostly because he lives in Auburn.
Foster once lived in Georgia, was committed to Alabama, moved to Auburn, Ala., then committed to and got a tattoo for the Auburn Tigers. Foster then backed off his commitment to an extent, and, while he remains committed, seriously considered the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide. In the end, I see Foster sticking with Auburn.
SB Nation Recruiting will reach out to sources on the matter, and may change the projection from Auburn to Alabama as early as Sunday morning.
Foster will announce his commitment Monday night, and not on National Signing Day.
