Clint Trickett is transferring to West Virginia, sources have informed Tomahawk Nation.

Trickett, a red-shirt junior, lost out in Florida State's quarterback battle over the spring to red-shirt freshman Jameis Winston. Trickett announced that he would transfer in early April. He also considered USF and Auburn, and there were reports that he was interested in Michigan, but Tomahawk Nation never confirmed those reports.

Update: Trickett has now announced the move on twitter

Trickett can play immediately by virtue of taking advantage of the graduate transfer rule.

At West Virginia, Trickett will be tasked with replacing Geno Smith, rated by most as the top QB in the NFL draft, and selected by the Jets in the second round.

West Virginia's offense is very friendly to quarterbacks. Geno Smith put up an outrageous line of 365-513 for 4198 yards and 42 touchdowns, with just six interceptions.

Trickett will get to throw a lot, but should not be expected to duplicate that line, as star receivers Tavon Austin and Steadman Bailey are gone, and well, Trickett is simply not as talented as Smith. If he can lead West Virginia to a bowl game it will be considered a big success in Morgantown.

The Trickett family has strong ties to West Virginia.
