Drew Barker, a consensus four-star quarterback prospect from Conner High School (Ky.), committed to Kentucky over South Carolina Friday. Barker is perhaps the best player from the state of Kentucky and is considered one of the top pro-style quarterbacks in the 2014 class.

Mark Stoops' staff can be credited for getting the Wildcats back into the mix with Barker. While his parents are Kentucky fans, Barker was disappointed by the lack of attention shown to him by former head coach Joker Phillips. He attended a camp at UK last year, and when he followed up with the coaches, it seems they had forgotten all about that:

"But when I talked to them, they were like, 'So, have you been to any camps recently?' I was like, 'Oh man, I was just at your camp and you didn't even know I was there!' It was kind of funny, but that's when I cut it off. I was done with UK."

The tenor of his recruitment changed significantly when Stoops took over, and the Wildcats have been able to make up a lot of ground as a result. Last week he received more than 100 letters from Kentucky coaches. The Wildcats also have a pass-happy offensive scheme to sell, which does not hurt either.

Barker, who is 6'4 and weighs 210 pounds, has numerous scholarship offers; in addition to Kentucky and South Carolina, he has been offered by Tennessee, Miami, Ole Miss, North Carolina and Vanderbilt, among others.

Barker is the sixth commitment of Kentucky's 2014 class.
