If there is one thing about playing at a legendary Florida high school, it's that you are certain to get noticed. So it is for Plantation (Fla.) High School cornerback Chris Lammons, who has picked up offers from some of the nation's top programs. Lammons is a 5'9, 168-pound defensive back/athlete prospect. He also plays quarterback at Plantation. His official highlight tape is available on Youtube, and it is ridiculous.
Coaches have lined up at Lammons' door, equipped with offers. As of May, Lammons holds 15 offers, including Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, South Carolina, Ohio State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Tennessee and West Virginia. He has received a consensus four-star rating from the recruiting services, including four stars from 24/7, Rivals, and ESPN. Scout gives Lammons a three-star rating. He is ranked No. 81 in the ESPN 150 and No. 150 in the 24/7 Top 247.
Lammons is available on Twitter at @CL1_Era.
Bud Elliott, National Recruiting Analyst: Lammons is really, really athletic. He's also quite raw, given that he plays quarterback for his high school team. Living in Florida, I've been lucky enough to see him play cornerback at several 7-on-7 events, and have come away very impressed.
One of Lammons' best attributes is his quickness. He is able to reach top speed almost immediately, which helps to cut down on receiver separation. His speed is good, but is not in the elite or track category.
While I haven't measured, Lammons' arms, they do appear longer than those of a typical 5'9.5/5'10 cornerback recruit. He has wide shoulders and should be able to play at at least 185 pounds.
There are still some questions remaining about Lammons. I haven't seen him flip his hips like an elite cornerback. I also don't know anything about his instincts to this point as a defensive back, because the 7-on-7 former doesn't lend itself to that. The same goes for tackling.
Lammons could benefit from a redshirt at the BCS level, but could also be a solid special teams contributor and perhaps a threat in the return game early on in his career.
