Darius Wade was one of the more impressive quarterback recruits at the Columbus stop of the Elite 11 and Nike Football Training Camp tour. Out of Middletown (DE) High School, the 6'2, 190-pound left-hander had to rely on his arm and not his mobility, but more than held his own. The Boston College commitment spoke to SB Nation about the camp and his recruiting process.
"It was a great two days of camp," Wade said. "I got a lot of work in and learned a lot from the great coaching staff. Competing against all these great players took my game to another level. I got to see how I compared to them, and it motivates me to work even more. When I get home, I want to work on breaking down defenses and making sure my footwork is together."
"I watched him at Temple and he did a good job trying to restore things there," Wade said. "He's making a big push about Boston College's great education. And playing in the ACC, and with the new additions of Louisville and Pitt and Syracuse. And I want to play; I know Ohio State is looking at me, and they said if I came to camp they would offer, and that's great, but I know they have a situation where I won't see the field until junior or senior year. I want to go somewhere I can make a difference early." Wade also added that Addazio has an offensive line background, and Boston College has a great history with offensive linemen, and that he knows he'll be well protected.
Wade is expecting Boston College to change its offense for them.
"The offense is very adaptable. Right now, they have Chase Rettig, who is a pro-style guy. But when I get there, it's going to be a lot of what [Addazio] did at Florida -- in shotgun, no huddle, QB mobility and let me make plays with my feet and my arm, and keep me moving around. More of a fast-paced, explosive offense," Wade said. He also added that he looks up to short, mobile quarterbacks like Russell Wilson.
With his commitment behind him, Wade is focused on bringing more weapons to Chesntut Hill.
"They have me working on a lot of different people. I'm staying in touch with [consensus four-star receiver] Jamil Kamara out of Virginia, and I'm trying to get in touch with [four-star RB from New York] Curtis Samuel, but now he's big time, so he's definitely weighing all his options. It's a lot of wideouts I'm looking at, getting them to come to campus, and seeing if they want to join the BC family."
