Brandon Dawkins, of Thousand Oaks (Calif.), Oaks Christian was one of the better quarterbacks at the Columbus Elite 11. The 6'3, 205-pound prospect holds several scholarship offers from BCS programs. After, he spoke about his experience and his recruitment.
"Footwork," Dawkins said about what he is working on at the camp. "Just getting better and more consistent with my footwork. It's a consistent grind."
The conversation turned to his recruitment.
"Notre Dame is still my biggest offer," Dawkins said. "Everyone thinks Notre Dame is where I'll go, but not yet. I want to weigh my options, and make sure the school I choose is the right fit for me, which Notre Dame might be."
Dawkins had some thoughts on the playing time created by the loss of Everett Golson, Notre Dame's quarterback suspended for academic impropriety.
"It's certainly an opportunity, but he's not the only QB there. Plus, he could still come back, so it's not a major factor."
While in Columbus, Dawkins made a recruiting stop.
"I just visited Ohio State," Dawkins said. "That went well, talking with Coach Meyer, he said he's heard of me and seen my tape, which is what every coach says. They want to see me throw live. Coach Meyer said he can't offer me yet because he doesn't really know me yet. I might try to make it back out to Ohio State to throw for Coach Meyer"
Dawkins plans to take some visits and camps over the summer. He plans to commit after his senior season.
Bud Elliott, National Recruiting Analyst: Given Dawkins' other offers (N.C. State, Utah, Hawaii), and his sudden decision to wait on committing until after his senior season, it is fair to ask whether his offer from Notre Dame is committable at this time. The Irish may have other targets higher on the board, like DeShone Kizer, who received an offer Wednesday. Still, Dawkins has quality options available to him.
