While quarterbacks were the story of day two of Florida State's Jimbo Fisher football camp, there was plenty to be found at other positions.
The receiver group was decent Thursday.
Deon Cain, of Tampa Bay Tech, was particularly impressive. Tomahawk Nation caught up with the rising sophomore.
CJ Worton, a Florida State commitment, was smooth and caught the ball well. Good player.
Garrett Johnson was his usual, solid self. The West Orange product probably isn't FSU material, but is very productive. He spoke highly of his Northwestern offer, both for its football and academics.
Mykel Jones, a 2016 recruit from from Patterson (La.) High was quite good. I saw him previously at the Under Armour Combine in January, and he continues to mature.
On the offensive line, Harrison Moon was again good and received plenty of attention. Luke Palmer, of Wauchula (Fla.) Hardee High School, was decent. He's a guard and I don't think FSU will offer, as the Seminoles need tackles. Clemson has made an offer, and Palmer is excited about it. Of note, Mississippi's Ethan Frith showed up late Thursday and plans to work out Friday. The 6'6 tackle continues to drop bad weight and looked good.
Tight end Chris Herndon was again good, but I believe he had some sort of injury or wasn't feeling well in the last part of the camp, because I didn't see him in the final portion. I do think he could hold 245+ pounds.
The defensive line was also a good group Thursday. As they did Wednesday, Florida State commitment Blake McClain, 2016 prospect Shane Simmons, 2015 prospect Kengara Daniel and defensive tackle Darius Smalls all stood out again. If Smalls can continue to drop bad weight, he could be an excellent player. Simmons will have any offer he wants in two years.
Three new faces emerged. The first is Lorenzo Featherston, a surprise visitor who also elected to work out. The top-100 national player did not disappoint. The 6'7, 215-pound Greensboro (N.C.) Page High product showed excellent athleticism for his size, and he can be a pass-rushing terror. Unfortunately, Featherston did not want to do any interviews. I was also impressed with Raashed Kennion from Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast High School. Kennion is long and raw and has some talent. He is a current Cincinnati commitment and someone the bigger schools will continue to monitor. Rashyne Robinson, of Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood High School, had a big day as well. Robinson is really strong at 6'3 and about 235 pounds, and he will likely be a sign and place. His teammates Kain Daub and Blake McClain are current Florida State commitments.
A few linebackers and defensive backs also stood out. Big cornerback Tajee Fullwood, of Tampa Bay Tech, planned to commit Thursday, but a stomach bug kept him from showing his best during drills and he'll be evaluated further down the line. There is strong mutual interest between him and Florida State. Reggan Northrup, brother of FSU linebacker Reggie Northrup, had a solid day. He profiles as a nickel linebacker or a bigger safety.
