Florida State cruises past Idaho 80-14 on senior day

Florida State went through the motions Saturday against a determined 1-10 Idaho team, crushing the Vandals 80-14. Tackling and blocking was a bit sloppy, but the No. 2 Seminoles rolled to 11-0 for the first time since 1999.

Four years ago, FSU couldn't go through the motions at all. Against anyone. In the final home game of that year, the Seminoles had to scratch and claw to beat a 2-9 Maryland team in order to go to a bowl -- anything but going through the motions.

But a special class of seniors who signed with Jimbo Fisher before he even coached a single game as the head man of Florida State changed all that. They brought Florida State "back."

And on senior day, it was the seniors who shined -- none more than receiver Kenny Shaw.

The slippery senior hauled in five passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Shaw now has 838 yards and five touchdowns on the season, and a real chance to become the first receiver to break the 1,000-yard mark since Anquan Boldin in 2002.

Red-shirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston was 14-25 for 225 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

Shaw wasn't the only senior to shine for Florida State. Late in the first quarter, Idaho was driving, but a third down pass into double coverage was intercepted by Telvin Smith, who initially appeared to not even realize that he had the football. Smith shook a potential tackler and was off to the races for 79 yards. It was Smith's second pick-six of the season.

On the day, Florida State outgained Idaho 644 to 344. Florida State ran 82 plays to Idaho's 92.

Winston

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, subject of an investigation into a possible December 7, 2012 sexual battery, will apparently have to wait a bit longer to find out if he will be charged.

Crowd: The student section arrived late, but Florida State definitely had 65,000+ people cheering on the seniors.

Record for points: This marks the first time Florida State has scored 80+ points in the history of the program. The old record was 77 in 1995 against N.C. State.

Next: 11/30 -- FSU at Florida, Noon, ESPN. Florida lost to Georgia Southern Saturday in the Swamp, 26-20. Georgia Southern did not complete a pass, but did rush for more than 400 yards.
