ESPN's Jeff Cameron, of ESPN Radio Tallahassee, reported that Jameis Winston will not be charged in the sexual battery investigation concerning an incident on December 7, 2012. State Attorney Willie Meggs is still set to speak at 2 pm to announce the findings of its investigation.
The case attracted national attention when it was reactivated in November 2013, as Winston became the favorite for the Heisman Trophy, and the quarterback of the No. 1 college football team in the country.
The complainant claimed that she had been drinking at a bar, got in to a cab, somehow ended up at an apartment with Winston and others, where the assault occurred.
However, as Tomahawk Nation first reported Thursday morning, the victim's accounts to police, and to those interviewed by the police, were inconsistent. Additionally, according to sources, the victim's blood alcohol level was not consistent with heavy drinking, and multiple blood tests and toxicitiy screenings showed no presence of "date rape" drugs.
Florida State plays against Duke Saturday in Charlotte for the ACC Title Game. Florida State is a massive favorite to win the game and to play in the National Title Game. The flight leaves later Thursday night.
Winston's attorney Tim Jansen will be addressing the media later Thursday.
