Chris Thompson
From 2009-2012, Thompson rushed for 1779 yards on 277 carries, 14 touchdowns, and added 430 yards receiving on 45 carries. He also came back from a horrific-looking back injury, and his career ended with a torn ACL in 2012. Before that, his 2012 was shaping up as one of the most dominant in Florida State history. Senior tailback who was in the midst of an outstanding season when he suffered a year-ending knee injury in the eighth game at Miami...ranked sixth in the ACC in rushing with 687 yards despite missing the final six games and was on pace to become FSU's first 1,000-yard back since Warrick Dunn in 1996...played a key role in FSU's resurgent running game, which averaged 205.9 yards a game and produced a single-season record 40 rushing touchdowns... major contributor to an FSU offense in 2012 which will go down in school history as the most productive ever racking up a school record 6,591 yards which surpassed the 2000 team for the most yards...co-winner of the ACC's Brian Piccolo Award as the Most Courageous player in 2012 after returning from two broken vertebrae in his back suffered at Wake Forest in early October of 2011...turned in three 100-yard rushing performances, highlighted by his career-best 197 yards against Wake Forest, which included TD runs of 74 and 80 yards...ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns in win over No. 10 Clemson and followed with 141 yards on the ground at NC State...his 7.54 yards per carry average (91-687) is ahead of Dunn's single-season school record average (7.48, 1995)...also led all running backs with 21 catches for 248 yards...ranked third in FSU history with a career 6.26 average after amassing 1,735 yards on 277 carries...ranked 15th all-time in career rushing yardage (1,735)...totaled 45 career receptions for 430 yards averaging 9.6 yards per reception...given the Leadership Award on offense at the team's annual banquet.
Devonta Freeman
Freeman was never flashy, but he was quite good from 2011-2013. And consistent. He racked up 2255 yards and 30 touchdowns on 404 career carries, and caught 47 balls for 475 yards. He turned pro early after the 2013 season.
Headlined Florida State's three-headed running back attack and started all 14 games...Durable back who never missed a game in three years and led by example...quick and powerful back capable of grinding out yards at the line or bouncing outside...First-Team All-ACC performer is tied for second in the conference with 15 total touchdowns...became FSU's first 1,000-yard rusher since Warrick Dunn in 1996 finishing the season with 1,016 rushing...Tied for third in school history with 30 career rushing touchdowns...ranked tied for 8th in FSU history with 2,255 career rushing yards...finished fourth in the ACC in rushing...had scored a touchdown in ten consecutive games...three 100-yard rushing games in 2013, including back-to-back performances against Nevada (9-109) and Bethune-Cookman (10-112)...had 73 rushing yards and a touchdown in the VIZIO BCS National Championship game...the Miami native led the Noles in rushing and receiving and totaled 176 yards (98 receiving and 78 rushing) of total offense and three touchdowns (two rushing and one receiving) against Miami...set or tied career highs in rushes (23), receptions (six), longest catch (48), receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and rushing touchdowns versus the Hurricanes...had a career-long rush of 60 yards against Nevada and matched that rush versus Idaho...tallied 21 rushes for 84 yards against then-No. 3 Clemson in "Death Valley"...ran for two first-half touchdowns and had 92 yards on 12 carries against NC State...had 129 yards on 11 carries versus Idaho...selected All-ACC First Team by coaches and media.
And the winner is...
With 59 percent of the vote, Chris Thompson is the winner. His explosive runs and highlight plays probably did the trick, but Seminoles were quite torn over this one.
