Jimbo Fisher Florida State football recruit camp: Day 2 updates

Hey Seminoles fans, the first session of the camps that have been the building blocks for Florida State's 45-10 record with two ACC titles, two BCS wins and a National title resumes on Thursday. The following is mostly the same as Monday, but a few names have been added. Thursday is typically the big day, so expect quite a few live updates in the comment section. Feel free to ask any questions you might have.

About half of Florida State's starters participated in Jimbo's camp at some point. Each year, quite a few new names emerge and the event helps the coaches form their board, and it also helps us media in that regard.

I know of a decent number of prospects who plan to camp. As always, some of these players won't show, and a huge number about which I hadn't heard will show up. This list is not expected to be a complete accounting of everyone who might possibly show up.

Florida State QB commit De'Andre Johnson, of Jacksonville, will be camping and looking to improve under the tutelage of Jimbo Fisher and Randy Sanders.

FSU QB target Kai Locksley will also visit this week. Given that his dad is the OC for Maryland, I was unimpressed with how raw Locksley was when I saw him in a decent camp in Virginia.

Receiver Da'Vante Phillips, of Miami Central, is already in town. I already consider the four-star to be a commitment, as do some of FSU's coaches and current players on the team. He is extremely tight with FSU running back Dalvin Cook, as the two were teammates in high school and through youth ball.

Florida State tight end commit Jalen Wilkerson, of Georgia, will be showing off his ability. His teammate Cole Minshew, also an FSU commitment on the offensive line, will accompany him.

Tennessee tight end Kyle Oliver will also be camping. I saw Oliver two weeks ago at the Nike event in Ohio. Oliver is athletic and if he impresses I expect FSU to offer. That he is making the effort to come down says a lot about his interest in Florida State.

Abdul Bello, the freakish offensive tackle recruit out of Montverde Academy, will also be camping. He is one of the top players on FSU's board. Christian Pellage told me that he plans to camp, but I don't know if he'll be here this week or in July.

2016 offensive tackle J.P. Urquidez, of Dematha Catholic (D.C.) will also make the trip.

Five-star defensive end CeCe Jefferson plans to camp, as does South Carolina four-star defensive end Michael Barnett. Defensive end is a need in this class, and FSU would love to pull the pair, though that seems unlikely.

2016 defensive end Janarius Robison and Jordan Woods will both be camping, as will Woods' Jackson teammate Garon Christian, a rising 2015 OT from Ocala Trinity. I believe 2016 end Joshua Brown will continue his camp, and 2016's Shane Simmons, of Dematha (DC) will also be down.

Alabama linebacker commitment Leo Lewis is also expected to come down from Mississippi because of the fine recruiting by FSU's Tim Brewster. But Alabama folks do not seem concerned at all.

FSU defensive back commits Derwin James and Calvin Brewton both plan to camp, and UNC commit (recent Alabama and UGA offer) Ronnie Harrison also tweeted that he might camp Thursday. NFC's Korey Charles is also expected to participate.

Players like Deondre Francois, Jacques Patrick and David Robbins are going to be in for the July camp.

Our updates will begin around 9:30 am. Updates will appear live in the comment section.
