I'll have a separate story today on Florida State's receiver and tight end recruiting, so look for that.
The comment section of this story will be the home for items and info from Jimbo Fisher's ESPN "car wash." What the heck is a car wash? Basically, Fisher is being run through all of the ESPN media in Bristol, from radio shows, to podcasts, to interviews on ESPN TV (and its other channels), and time with writers.
Pitt’s Paul Chryst, North Carolina’s Larry Fedora, Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson, Virginia’s Mike London, Louisville’s Bobby Petrino and Syracuse’s Scott Shafer are also slated to make the rounds during the Monday session.
Florida State's football camp kicks off August 4, for those wondering.
Friend of Tomahawk Nation, Dan Wolken, for USA Today, wrote about the cottage industry that is private QB coaching. Jimbo Fisher is not on board.
"We've got good quarterback coaches," Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said. "My guys aren't going out there. I'll coach them. When they go to pro ball, they can do whatever they want. We'll coach our guys. I don't think it benefits you. We know what we're doing, too."
-Good podcast from our Notre Dame website on the happenings with Irish football as it enters fall camp.
-How will Clemson replace Sammy Watkins and Martavis Bryant? Shakin' The Southland has a look. Also, our Clemson site asks if Clemson is an elite program. My take: No, but it's a very valuable program for the ACC in that next tier.
How much would FSU be favored by if it did not have Jameis Winston? I was asked this question on Twitter Sunday night. My response? At books that love FSU (Las Vegas Hilton, for instance), FSU would still be favored by double digits in every game (currently, the shortest FSU line at LVH is FSU -17 at Louisville). At books where FSU is not quite as popular, FSU would still be favored by more than a TD in every game, as FSU is favored by 14.5 or more in each.
This might surprise some, but I recall equal surprise when Vegas bookmakers said that Johnny Manziel was not worth a full TD. Given the talent around each of those, there is no way that Winston is as valuable to his whole as Manziel was, and thus that is my reasoning.
