
Ingram Smith and I took the podcast in a bit of a different direction this week. After USA Today and Jameis Winston's "squirrel hunting" story, we finally decided to discuss the changing approach of media and the superstar athlete in the age of twitter, cell phone cameras, instagram, and increasing pressure on traditional media outlets to deems previously frivolous stories as "newsworthy."
To do this, we brought on Mark Ennis, of Card Chronicle, who covered Teddy Bridgewater, and Lucas Jackson, of Good Bull Hunting, who covered Johnny Manziel.
We talk about how the life of a celebrity athlete has changed over the last five, ten and fifteen years, and whether that is a good thing. We also discuss the changing role of sports media
Oh, and there's some talk about the cottage "NFL Draft" industry, where everyone is able to call themselves an "NFL Draft Expert" simple by putting it in their twitter bio.
I think this came out very different than our normal format, but also very well.
