This 4-star QB is one of the best uncommitted quarterbacks.
Woody Barrett, the second-best uncommitted quarterback in the class of 2016, will be committing on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. ET, and the Auburn Tigers look like the favorite.
Barrett is a four-star and ranked as the sixth-best dual-threat QB in the class, according to the 247Sports composite ratings, and as the 221st-best player overall. The Orlando (Fla.) West Orange High School product is the latest recruit to get caught up in the Iron Bowl rivalry, as Auburn and Alabama are both potential landing places. He was personally recruited by Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, but most experts see him landing at Auburn.
Barrett has good mobility, a very solid build at 6'2, 225 and a strong arm.
Auburn has plenty of quarterback talent, with four-star quarterbacks committing every year of the Gus Malzahn era, but Barrett could be the quarterback of the future for the Tigers once Jeremy Johnson and Sean White graduate. Barrett could be an interesting addition in that he would be the first true dual-threat quarterback for Malzahn to pick up out of high school, and Malzahn's offense has traditionally relief on QB mobility.
On a broader scale, Barrett also represents one of the last chances for teams to grab an elite quarterback in the 2016 class. 13 of the top 14 quarterbacks in the 2016 class have already committed, and time is running out to grab an elite QB. That's important for a number of reasons, and it can affect the entire recruiting class.
Given that there is only one football and that teams rarely rotate quarterbacks, a top QB will often want to reserve his spot with the school of his choice. QB is also the noted position of leadership, so the recruit can then attempt to persuade other top players to join him.
Neither Auburn nor Alabama has a quarterback in this class, so the Tigers and the Crimson Tide could both really use the services of the Orlando QB.
