Florida State really stepped up its basketball recruiting game Monday with the surprise addition of Jonathan Isaac, a fast-rising recruit from the IMG Academy in Bradenton (Fla.). We spoke to two basketball experts to bring you the scoop.
SB Nation's Ricky O'Donnell:
"Jonathan Isaac is the type of versatile combo forward every coach in the country would love to have. He's considered a five-star recruit more for his long-term ceiling than his immediate readiness, but he could slot in next to Dwayne Bacon and Malik Beasley a year from now to give Florida State its most talented basketball team in recent memory.
Isaac is 6'9 but has always been groomed as a perimeter player. He has a nice face-up jump shot with range out to the three-point line. He has a thin frame and should be considered a stretch four in college. This isn't the type of player who will beat you on the low block or excel on the glass, but his combination of height and skill makes him a mismatch nightmare from the moment he steps onto a college court."
And Tomahawk Nation's Matt Minnick:
6’9 kid from IMG Academy (originally from Hollywood, FL) who can play the 3 and 4. Needs to add weight (under 195 pounds right now) but the sky is the limit. Incredible length, array of skills offensively, and is still developing. Currently ranked 12th in the ESPN top 100, 21st in the 247 composite, he’s a consensus 5 star.
He had 30+ offers including Kentucky, Wisconsin, Texas, UF, Louisville, Pitt, LSU, Michigan, UVA, Miami, and many more. Ham is wrecking havoc in Florida with Donovan gone to the NBA. This class could be flat out epic.
And three more recruiting analysts (via Twitter):
@jeffborzello: Jonathan Isaac was perhaps the biggest riser in the 2016 class during the spring. Huge get for Florida State. Super talented prospect.
@TheRecruitScoop: Jonathan Isaac has the talent & length to have a very productive career. He joins C.J. Walker & Trent Forrest in Florida State's 2016 class.
@EvanDaniels: Last summer Jon Isaac was 6-6. Grew to 6-9 and continued to develop his skills. Legit top 10 guy with a ridiculous ceiling.
