Pittman has done his homework on the Ducks and Gators.
FRISCO, Texas — Four-star Calabasas (Calif.) receiver recruit Mycah Pittman is ready to announce his commitment, he told SB Nation at The Opening Finals event.
“I’m committing first or second week of July,” Pittman said. “I’m working on the video. In a way, I know where I’m going. I might change it at the last second, but I have an idea.”
Pittman has cut his list to two.
“It’s between Florida and Oregon. Those schools offer me a lot. It was them with Alabama and Ohio State for a long time, but now it’s Florida and Oregon.”
“It’s a great relationship,” Pittman said of Oregon. “Every morning they are constantly hitting my phone up. I appreciate all the love. Mario Cristobal was at Alabama, and he knows that mentality. I’m looking for”
Pittman sees a fit for himself in the UO offense.
“I can fit in many ways. In the slot, outside, I’m explosive. My specialty, I can catch it and turn up the field. Oregon likes to get the dig routes over the middle and take it to the house. I’m a run after the catch guy, motions, they were showing me where I’ll be in their plays.”
There’s also a fit with the Gators.
“I fit great in Florida’s offense. With receivers coach Billy Gonzales, look at the dudes he has put out, like Odell Beckham Jr. He’s a great coach. His concepts, his schemes, the stuff he talks about. He’s so intelligent.”
“It’s great to feel wanted by those guys, they’ve had winning success.”
Distance is not an issue for Pittman.
“The distance is no issue. I lived in Florida for a long time, since my dad (Michael Pittman) played for the Bucs. I lived in Florida for 10 years.”
Pittman said he hates California, and wants to leave the state, but not necessarily the West Coast.
The deciding factor is the receiver depth chart.
“Florida got those two 2018 recruits who were highly recruited (Jacob Copeland and Justin Watkins), and they got the two transfers,” Pittman said. “But they were telling me I can compete right away. They were telling me they had a bunch of talented guys who can’t see the field because they don’t have it mentally in the head. Just dudes who can’t get the plays down, concepts, coverages, that stuff. I’m a big guy in the study room. I’ll be in the film room for hours.”
But he sees a better opportunity with Oregon.
“Oregon is way greater chance to play early because of their depth chart. I mean, who do they really have? They don’t have too much. No disrespect to the receivers there, but right now they have nobody who has stepped up to be that guy. The depth chart is open and the coaches are great coaches.”
The smart money seems like it is on Oregon, but as Pittman said, his mind could change at the last second.
