Florida State will play both newcomers to the ACC in 2013, as it hosts the Syracuse Orange and travels to play at the Pitt Panthers. Full schedule here.
Syracuse was arguably the best team in the Big East in 2012. It smoked conference champion Louisville, and destroyed West Virginia in its bowl game. And then its head coach, Doug Marrone, left to become head coach of the NFL's Buffalo Bills. I'm not quite sure what Syracuse returns.
Pitt projects to be somewhere between the second and the fourth-best team in the Coastal Division for 2013. New coach Paul Chryst has brought stability to the once proud program that had fallen on hard times. With a power running game and an opportunistic defense, the Panthers improbably made a bowl game in his first season, including a stunning (at the time) upset of Virginia Tech. Whether they will do so again in 2013 probably depends on their performance in the non-conference.
