I figured a comparison of the coaching salaries for Florida State from 2012 to 2013 was in order. I cannot guarantee the 2012 salaries are correct, though I believe them to be. I maintain them on a spreadsheet.

To my knowledge, the existing coaches have not received raises over what they made in 2012. That could change, of course.

As it stands, FSU looks to be saving $135,000 over last year's coaching staff.

Part of this is because two members of the staff (Pruitt and Kelly) have significantly less experience over their predecessors (Stoops, Hudson). Of course, Hudson was grossly overpaid for his contribution to Florida State. That's not to say that he was overpaid based on his credentials before coming to Tallahassee -- he wasn't, but once he got here, his contribution wasn't worth six figures, much less $400,000 annually.

It's also worth noting that Sunseri is still being paid ~600,000 annually by Tennessee for the next two (or three) years on top of what Florida State is paying him. He's not hurting for money, and FSU otherwise might not have been able to afford him.

Is the new staff an upgrade over the old staff? I think that's up for debate. It has a lot of promise, but also some uncertainty.

Is Rick Trickett overpaid at $400,000? Considering that some believe him to be a liability on the recruiting trail, I think there's an argument for that. There's also the school of thought that offensive line is the most important position (non-coordinator), and pay often reflects that.

What do you think of the new staff?
