With the news that Chip Kelly has left the Oregon Ducks to become the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, many Oregon fans are left to wonder how the Ducks will recruit without Kelly and with a serious case before the NCAA.
The good news? Oregon shouldn't lose much. The bad news? Oregon really didn't have much to lose.
Oregon's class numbers just 13, and of those, only six are consensus rated four-stars or better. Hardly a recruiting class of a consistent national title contender.
The star of the class is Thomas Tyner, an excellent back who many rate as five stars out of Beaverton (Oregon) Aloha High School. At 210 pounds, Tyner is much bigger than most Oregon running backs of the past, but he still has excellent speed.
A more typical Oregon-style running back is Dontre Wilson of DeSoto (Texas) High School, who checks in at 5'10 and 170 pounds with tremendous speed and quickness.
Other top Oregon recruits include the Robinson twins -- Tyree and Tyrell, out of San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln High School. Both are consensus four-star recruits.
Receiver Darren Carrington is also a double-digit offer recruit out of San Diego, and Evan Voeller is an in-state recruit who gives Oregon some nice size on the offensive line at 6'5 and 280 pounds.
With offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich taking over as head coach for Kelly, and the rest of the staff presumably remaining intact, the Ducks shouldn't suffer too many decommitments.
