Highly-coveted cornerback/athlete recruit Chris Lammons committed to Florida on Monday, potentially the first domino to fall in a day that could see fellow Sunshine Staters Ermon Lane and Quincy Wilson select the Gators. The Plantation, FL native chose Florida from a list of more than 20 potential programs, becoming the 13th future Gator in Will Muschamp's Class of 2014.
Lammons is a consensus four-star prospect, with Rivals, Scout, and 24/7 all ranking him among the top 35 cornerbacks in the Class of 2014. ESPN also gives Lammons four stars, though he is classified as an athlete. The 5'10, 165-pound Lammons chose Florida over Alabama, Miami, Tennessee, South Carolina, Arkansas, Ohio State, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, among others. I was impressed with Lammons' athleticism:
Lammons is really, really athletic. He's also quite raw, given that he plays quarterback for his high school team. Living in Florida, I've been lucky enough to see him play cornerback at several 7-on-7 events, and have come away very impressed.
One of Lammons' best attributes is his quickness. He is able to reach top speed almost immediately, which helps to cut down on receiver separation. His speed is good, but is not in the elite or track category.
Lammons' commitment, combined with those from Lane and Wilson, could give Florida 15 commits to the Class of 2014.
