The Florida Gators received the verbal commitment of wide receiver Ermon Lane Monday.  The 6'3, 193-pound wide receiver is one of three Florida commits announcing Monday, all set to join 13 earlier Gator commitments.  Lane hails from Homestead, FL, and plays high school football for Homestead High.

Lane is widely considered one of the best high school wide receivers in the country, earning a five-star rating from 24/7 Sports and four-star status at Rivals and Scout.  All three scouting services have him ranked among the four best wide receiver prospects and top 40 overall prospects nationally.  I once compared Lane favorably with A.J. Green:

Lane profiles as an elite deep threat who can also make the first defender miss on bubble screens. Because he is polished, Lane should either start immediately or play a substantial number of snaps as a freshman. Those looking for a similar receiver should pull up A.J. Green's highlight film from the class of 2008.

Lane had previously narrowed a list of nearly 20 BCS-level offers to Florida, Alabama, and Miami.  Florida State, Ohio State, USC, LSU, and Arkansas were also in pursuit.

Lane is the first wide receiver to commit to the Gators for 2014.  Florida has largely focused on the trenches in early recruiting, landing five offensive linemen and a pair of defensive linemen.  Lane, cornerback/athlete Chris Lammons, and safety Quincy Wilson all announced their commitments to Florida Monday evening.
