Florida high school football playoffs: Clay vs. American Heritage, Niceville vs. Dwyer

The Florida State high school finals will be decided Friday and Saturday in the original Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla. At 1 p.m. ET, Clay will face off against American Heritage in the 5A game. At 7 p.m. ET, Niceville will take on Dwyer in the 6A final.

American Heritage is a BCS farm system

American Heritage is absolutely loaded. Its star is Sony Michel, a five-star running back with offers from every major school in the country. Michel is headed to Georgia. Cincinnati-bound defensive back Carter Jacobs is a three-star, and he's joined in the secondary by Juwan Dowels, a fellow three-star who is headed to Northern Illinois. Receiver Isaiah McKenzie is undeclared, but is explosive with a lot of moves. The three-star is giving major consideration to Notre Dame. Edgar Cerenord is a three-star with a host of offers at defensive tackle and offensive guard. UCF and Wake Forest are interested in Cerenord.

And juniors Torrance Gibson (quarterback/receiver) and Tarvarus McFadden (defensive back) are future five-star types who hold or will hold offers from every major program in the country.

In short, if Clay takes down American Heritage, it would be a major upset.

Niceville vs. Dwyer is a balanced contest

In the 6A game, Niceville has a two-headed attack with Tyre McCants and Shi'Kim Coward. McCants is a three-star, 5'11, 200-pound receiver and defensive back with multiple BCS offers. If one of the big Florida schools doesn't extend an offer, McCants could wind up at USF. Coward is also a three-star, but is a member of the class of 2015. The running back and cornerback holds offers from Georgia Tech, USF and a variety of Sun Belt schools.

Dwyer is similarly talented. The Panthers are led by Johnnie Dixon, one of the top senior receivers in the country. The four-star will soon choose between Miami, Alabama and Ohio State. Niceville will have its hands full stopping Dixon. Defensively, Dwyer has Shawn Boone securing the top from his safety position. The three-star holds offers from several BCS schools, and is drawing interest from N.C. State, Arkansas, Maryland and Penn State.
