The Michigan State Spartans landed a commitment from four-star safety Montae Nicholson on Thursday. Nicholson is regarded as a top-200 prospect and the 13th-best safety in the 2014 class, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. He chose the Spartans over Pitt, Michigan State, Oregon, Virginia Tech and a handful of other programs.
The addition of Nicholson will be big for Michigan State. The Spartans came into the week ranked 41st nationally in 247's composite team rankings, and his pledge to the team should move them up a couple of rungs. He is the fifth four-star prospect to commit to Michigan State this year.
Here's some video of the four-star athlete in action:
Most feel Nicholson will play defensive back in college, though he does have some experience at wide receiver and has also returned kicks. At 6'3 and 200 pounds, he possesses the size to be a real threat down the field if he's able to pick up the offense in practice. It'll be interesting to see how Michigan State's coaching staff utilizes his talent down the road.
