Florida State using NFL draft success in football recruiting

Florida State had huge success in the NFL draft last weekend with 11 players picked. It was as many as the Seminoles had sent to the league in the previous four drafts combined.

Needless to say, this is pretty big for recruiting. More than winning, climate, education, pretty girls, etc., recruits want to get to the NFL and get paid. For many, in poverty, it means the chance to move their family to a safer neighborhood and provide a more comfortable life. And aside from that, it's the dream they come up with.

Florida State's coaches are posting pictures like the one above on Facebook, where recruits are sure to see them. This is important in the battle to combat negative recruiting by the SEC, which saw both divisions send more draft picks to the league than any other conference.

Florida State's task is to tell recruits that they aren't signing with a conference, but with a school. Schools like LSU, Alabama, Florida and Georgia produce NFL talent regularly, but other SEC schools do not. The lesser schools pitch recruits on the number of NFL draft choices for the conference, as opposed to their own school. Thus, it was important for FSU to distance itself from the lesser SEC schools in terms of NFL draft choice production.
